Welcome to FLEXNets Projects Page

FLEXNets (Flexible Wireless Communications Systems & Networks) is an open source research initiative that explores new means for leveraging the flexibility in radio communications. It provides a platform for collaborative research efforts on software-defined radio (SDR), cognitive radio, and similar concepts that promote flexible wireless communications systems and networks.

The mission of FLEXNets is easing the design, development, and deployment of flexible radio communications systems and networks. FLEXNets provides software tools for sharing hardware and software resources. It facilitates the introduction of real-time resource management algorithms and testing them in different scenarios.

FLEXNets is divided into subprojects related to different flexibility aspects:

  • ALOE: Abstraction Layer & Operating Environment (former PHAL-OE - Platform and Hardware Abstraction Layer Operating Environment) is a lightweight software layer that extends flexibility by incorporating abstraction mechanisms and execution environment functionalities for a cluster of heterogeneous processors.

=> Quick Start Guide for Linux: Download, install and run ALOE in x86/ARM computers (single-processor only)

=> Setting-up a Multi-Processor Environment: Learn how to set up a simple multiprocessor execution environment in Linux.

=> Quick Start Guide for DSK6455?: Download, install and run ALOE for TI-DSPs.

=> aloeUI Quick Start Guide: Set up and use the GUI front-end.

  • FlexHW?: Modular Radio Communication Hardware is a repository of hardware designs that are freely available.
  • FlexWaves: Flexible Radio Waves is a repository folder of available software modules for different radio waveforms. UMTS and WiMAX are currently available.
  • FlexCRM: Flexible Computing Resource Management focuses on the development of a complete computing resource management (CRM) framework that addresses the computing resource management issues of heterogeneous multiprocessor platforms and the real-time computing requirements of software-defined radio applications or waveforms.
  • aloeUI: Graphical User Interface for ALOE. The GUI provides control for loading and executing waveforms, displaying real-time signal evolution, capturing execution time statistics, etc.
