Such flexibility is based on the assumption of Software Radio concepts as a baseline to incorporate Cognitive Radio approaches and strategies. An important effort is currently being done in introducing resource management of the whole radio context.5 '''FlexNets''' '''(Flexible Wireless Systems & Networks)''' is an open source initiative that explores and tries to leverage the flexibility of radio communication systems. This flexibility is based on the SDR concept and incorporates cognitive radio approaches and strategies. Resource management at all layers of the radio system-hardware, software, service, etc.-is an important issue that '''FlexNets''' addresses. 6 6 7 The objective of '''FlexNets''' is to offer to the research community the capacity to easily design and develop new radio environments, sharing hardware platforms and available modules from different waveforms, where to introduce and test new strategies and/or algorithms running in real-time.7 The mission of '''FlexNets''' is easing the design, development, and deployment of new radio environments. It facilitates sharing hardware and software resources, introducing and testing real-time algorithms or strategies. '''FlexNets''' is divided into several subprojects, each one of them related with another aspect of flexibility. The following projects are currently in progress: 8 8 9 '''FlexNets''' is compound of several projects each one of them related with different aspects capable to offer flexibility to the wireless systems. The currently running frameworks and projects are: 9 * [wiki:P-HAL-OE ALOE]: '''Abstraction Layer & Operating Environment''' (previously PHAL-OE, Platform and Hardware Layer Operating Environment) is a lightweight software layer that incorporates abstraction layer and execution environment functionalities for a cluster of heterogeneous processors, including GPPs, DSPs, and FPGAs. It facilitates the deployment of software modules, running on different processors while ensuring that real-time constraints will be met. It also provides mechanisms for monitoring and managing the available computing resources. 10 10 11 * [wiki: P-HAL-OE ALOE]: '''Abstraction Layer & Operating Environment''', (previous PHAL-OE), has been designed to be a light software layer that incorporates the Abstraction Layer and the Execution Environment functionalities of a cluster of heterogeneous processors, GPPs, DSPs, FPGAs, etc. It facilitates the deployment of software modules into the different processors assuring the real-time constraints and providing mechanisms for monitoring and managing the available computing resources.11 * [wiki:ModRCommHW ModRCommHW]: '''Modular Radio Communication HWardware''' is a repository of hardware designs that are freely available. 12 12 13 * [wiki: ModRCommHW ModRCommHW]: '''Modular Radio Communication HWardware''' is a repository of HW designs that are freely available to the research community.13 * [wiki:RTCCommCL RTCCommCL]: '''Real-Time Computing Communication Cluster''' is an cluster of heterogeneous processors that permits testing newly developed waveforms and management strategies or algorithms. It consists of Linux PCs, Sony Play Stations (PS3) running Linux, and DSPs (TI's C64XX DSK boards). This cluster can be remotely loaded via the ALOE framework. 14 14 15 * [wiki: RTCCommCL RTCCommCL]: '''Real-Time Computing Communication Cluster''' is an cluster of heterogeneous processors that is available to the research community where to test the new developed waveforms, management strategies or algorithms. It is based in a mix of PCs and PS3 (Play Station 3), as Linux machines, and DSPs, C64XX DSK boards from TI, that can be remotely loaded by using the ALOE framework.15 * [wiki:FlexWaves FlexWaves]: '''Flexible Radio Waves''' is a repository folder of available software modules for different radio waveforms. UMTS and WiMAX are currently available. 16 16 17 * [wiki:FlexWaves FlexWaves]: '''Flexible Radio Waves''' is a repository folder of available modules for different radio waveforms: UMTS, WiMAX currently 18 19 * [wiki:FlexCRM FlexCRM]: '''Flexible Computing Resource Management for SDR systems''' describe some current work related with the modellisation and the computing resource management in SDR systems. 17 * [wiki:FlexCRM FlexCRM]: '''Flexible Computing Resource Management for SDR systems''' focuses on the development of a complete computing resource management (CRM) framework that addresses the computing resource management issues of heterogeneous multiprocessor platforms and the real-time computing requirements of waveforms. 20 18 21 19 == GNU License ==
